New technical illustrations

It’s been quite sometime since I have had the opportunity/need to execute something in the way of a technical illustration that went outside the realm of process charts and labeled screen captures. So when I completed this piece the other night, I was very proud of myself. This is a model 1873 Colt .45 revolver. It is going to be included along with a range of 1800’s era firearms that will appear in a gaming supplement set in an American Old-West setting. Stylistically, I wanted to emulate a catalog illustration, using only lines of varying depths to indicate mass. Below, I have included both the source image, and the final line art as it appear in the final printed product.

The illustration was created in Adobe Illustrator CS5, and took about 4 hours from start to finish. Now I just have nine more of these to do (added below as they are completed).
